School Fair Should Be Encouraged. It was at first hoped to’give four prizes of$l, 75c, 50c and 25c respectively for all contests at the school fair, but on surrtming up the number of prizes earned by the various schools, it is found thattlie$75 allowed by the carni-' val committee, which was plenty for the two previous school fairs, will not coverthe 54 first prizes and 38 second prizes. While it is en couraging to note the surprising increase in the variety of exhibits and the unusual num ber of entries in each contest, it is vex.’ un fortunate that the little folks who alom nave made this growth possible, should be deprived of their prizes which they have earned. By way of suggestion it might be stated that the school committee is ready to make up the shortage out of private funds for small rural schools. The Mapleton business men — J.. have already made up a sufficient sum fo cover the third and fourth prizes and also the spec ial prizes for those exhibits that the judges deemed worthy of such.
